TIPS & TECHNIQUES
Tire pressure
-
In some cases when driving through very soft sand, deflating your tires down to
12-18psi increases the surface area of the tire that is in contact with the
sand and spreads the weight of the vehicle giving more traction.
-
Tires must be re-inflated to road pressure once you are back on-road. Too
little air pressure in the tire exposes the side-walls of the tire (weakest
part) to sharp objects and excessive wear & tear, resulting in damage.
Driving over obstacles
-
When driving in rocky terrain, always try to put your tires over the
rocks/obstacles and crawl over them SLOWLY.
-
Avoid straddling rocks/obstacles even if your vehicle is protected by
skid-plates. The obstacles may be higher than the ground clearance of your car.
Which gear do I use off-road?
-
Driving in soft sand, mud, etc… it is recommended to use “4 PART TIME” (see
diagram below). This allows engine power to go to all 4 tires making them
rotate in unison.
-
When you get back on-road it is essential to switch back to “2 WD” or 2-wheel
drive to avoid damaging the power-train system.
